Rainforest Destruction:

Understanding the Cross Cutting Issues Involved

Now you can save the rainforest by drinking orange juice!

Yes, it’s true – by purchasing Tropicana orange juice, you are becoming actively involved in rainforest preservation!

The orange juice company has partnered up with NGO Cool Earth, a UK based international organization that is working to slow the rate of climate change, to make rainforest preservation easy and accessible for everyone.

Tropicana has printed a unique code on each of their containers of orange juice; if you enter that code on their website, they will protect 100 square feet of rainforest (in the name of your choice). They are willing to preserve up to 10,000 acres using this method!

It is such a simple (and delicious) way to do something positive for our rainforests, that it’s really quite impossible to say no to. Click here to learn more about this neat cause, and sent me a comment when you’ve had the chance to purchase your container of Tropicana orange juice! Cheers!

Does that really work or it’s some kind of scam? hahaha I guess they think people will buy their juice to save their 100 square of rainforest, but I’m wondering whether people will be pissed off instead because they’re trying to make money by saving rainforest. I believe it would have been a much better idea to just go ahead with the 10,000 square feet and then let medias do their job and get customers buying their product because they trust the company. Well, it’s all about marketing and the bottom line I guess! hahaha Have you heard of any backlash about this promotion/campaign?

Hey Matt, Thanks for your comment!
We’re in a new age of business; one characterized by philanthropy, social entrepreneurism, socially responsible investing, and the ever popular “triple bottom line.” Although it may have once have seemed strange to have “money” and “saving the rainforest” in a sentence about solution, I think today is much different day. Money is the driving force behind most people’s actions, and whether or not it’s right, it seems to be having some pretty positive effects. I’d rather have a company make money by saving the rainforest, than make money killing the rainforest. People need to earn a living, and if they can do so in a socially responsible way, and perhaps even set an example for positive change, I am all for it. I just hope organizations don’t see this an opportunity to market themselves, without making a difference at all; let me know if you start to hear the term “rainforest-washing” circulating around… :S
